Airports Seek Federal Help
Lobbyists for the nation's airports want to be included in a potential windfall of transportation infrastructure dollars being considered as part of a stimulus package being crafted by congressional Democrats. "Airport infrastructure needs have grown significantly in recent years," Chip Barclay, president of the American Association of Airport Executives, said in a statement Tuesday.
"Congress can make substantial progress in addressing those urgent needs and create tens of thousands of high-paying construction jobs along the way," Barclay said. In addition to funding, Barclay has also asked that lawmakers assist airport financing by changing existing law, including changes to the tax code and the Federal Aviation Administration's Airport Improvement Program's funding levels.
